Mangrove Cover in India.

  • Total Mangrove cover of the country is 4975 sq.km which is 0.15% of the countries total geographical area.
  • There has been net increase of  54sq.km in the Mangrove cover of the country in 2019 forest report as compared to 2017 forest report.

1.Andhrapradesh

  • Forest consists of Moderately dense and Open mangroves.
  • Total Mangroves – 404.14 sq.km

2.Goa

  • Forest consists of Moderately dense and open Mangroves.
  • Total Mangroves – 26 sq.km

  • Forest consists of Moderately dense and open Mangroves.
  • Total area is 1177.27 sq.km

  • Forest consists of Moderately dense and open Mangroves.
  • Total area is 3.10 sq.km

12.Puducherry

  • Forest consists of Moderately dense and open Mangroves.
  • Total area is 1.64 sq.km

Fact

South 24 parganas of West Bengal alone contributes for 41.85% of Mangrove cover of the country.
