1. Tamil Nadu Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS)
– Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday launched the Tamil Nadu Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) with a target to attract Rs 30,000 crore investment and create 60,000 jobs over the next three to five years across the state.
– The scheme has been designed to boost TN’s competitiveness in attracting domestic and global investments.
– The state scheme covers 11 high-growth components, including flexible printed circuit boards (FPCBs), lithium-ion cells, HDI/MSAP boards, display modules and passive components.
2. Centre sanctions about ₹2,999 crore to Tamil Nadu under MGNREGS
-In Tamil Nadu, nearly 91 lakh workers belonging to 76 lakh households are actively participating in the MGNREGS.
– As much as 86% of employment is provided to women workers, and nearly 29% of the workers are from SC/ST households.
– About 1 lakh differently abled workers are covered each year.

1. Cabinet approves caste Census
– In a landmark move, the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) has approved the inclusion of caste enumeration in the 2025 population census for the first time since India’s independence.

– The first synchronous census in India was conducted on February 17, 1881, under British rule. It was overseen by W.C. Plowden, the Census Commissioner of India.
– The Census of India 2021, initially scheduled for 2021, has been repeatedly postponed and is now expected to begin in 2025. It will be the 16th decennial census of India and the 8th since independence. The census will be conducted digitally using mobile applications
– The Socio Economic and Caste Census 2011 was conducted for the 2011 Census of India

– The Supreme Court (SC) of India in the case Amar Jain v. Union of India & Ors, 2025 ruled that inclusive digital access to e-governance and welfare systems is an integral part of the fundamental right to life and liberty.

4. National Security Advisory Board reconstituted
– The NSAB was constituted in December 1998, as an advisory body of eminent persons outside the government to render advice on national security issues referred to it by the NSC.
– It draws people of diverse domains including industry, media and civil society, among others.
– Now Alok Joshi, former Chief of the Research and Analysis Wing, India’s external intelligence agency, appointed as its Chairman.
– The move undertaken in the last few days comes amid the ongoing tensions with Pakistan post the Pahalgam terror attack.
5. Centre hikes sugarcane price by 4.41% to ₹355 per quintal for 2025-26
– Centre has approved an increase in the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane to ₹355 per quintal for the 2025-26 sugar season, up from ₹340 per quintal in the previous season.
– FRP was determined based on recommendations from the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) and after consultations with State Governments and other stakeholders.

1. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty receive Khel Ratna Award
– The Indian badminton stars were conferred the award in 2023 but could not receive the accolade last year. The delayed ceremony was held in New Delhi.
– The Khel Ratna is the country’s highest National Sports Award given annually by India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Nominated sportspersons usually receive their awards from the President of India.
