1. Justice Sanjiv Khanna takes over as 51st Chief Justice of India

– Justice Sanjiv Khanna’s term will last until May 13, 2025

– President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of the office of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) to Supreme Court judge Justice Sanjiv Khanna

– Chief Justice Khanna’s legal practice began in the district courts of the national capital in 1983.

– He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in 2005 and made a Permanent Judge in 2006.

– He was one of the few judges elevated to the Supreme Court directly from his parent High Court. 

– He had never functioned as a Chief Justice of a State High Court. 

– He had superceded 32 High Court judges ahead of him in seniority to be appointed apex court judge.

 

2. 25th SATRC Meeting 

– 25th Meeting of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC-25) held in New Delhi.

South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC) :

– It was formed in 1997 by an initiative of APT

 ( Asia Pacific Telecommunity ) 

– The SATRC is responsible for discussion and coordination of all the issues relating to regulations in telecommunication and ICT which are of common interest to the telecommunication regulators in South Asian countries. 

– At present, SATRC is consisted of nine South Asian countries. The countries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

– The 24th SATRC Meeting, held in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2023 

– The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) secretariat located in Thailand 

 

3. ‘Antariksha Abhyas – 2024’

– It is an First Ever Space Exercise. 

– It is hosted by Defence Space Agency begins in New Delhi

– It is a first of its kind exercise being conducted and is expected to help secure national strategic objectives in space and integrate India’s space capability in military operations.

– It is a three day Exercise to war-game the growing threats from and to Space Based Assets and Services.

– It will have participants from the Defence Space Agency and its allied units along with personnel from the Army, Navy and the Air Force.

 

4. Indigenous Development of Silicon Carbide Wafers and GaN HEMT based MMIC Technology up to X-band Applications

– Developed by Solid State Physics Laboratory, a DRDO laboratory.

– GaN/SiC technology is a critical enabler of next-generation applications across defence, aerospace, and clean energy sectors.

– This advanced technology offers improved efficiency, reduced size and weight, and enhanced performance, making it essential for future combat systems, RADARS, electronic warfare systems, and green energy solutions.

 

5. 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 

– The Festival is hosted by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG).

– Theme of IFFI 2024 – “Young Filmmakers’ – The Future is Now” – recognizes potential of youth in shaping the future of creativity

– The festival will be held in Goa 

– A new section and award of Best Debut Indian Director has been instituted, to recognize the young filmmaking talent across India.
